The Jayhawks are taking on the St. Cloud State Huskies this weekend in what should be one of the most entertaining series of the season. The Jayhawks are coming home for the first time since a September 28th defeat at the hands of the Missouri Tigers. KU is unbeaten in their last six games and is 5-1-2-0 in their last eight contests. That performance has been good enough to put KU in 13th in the central division of the ACHA. KU is trying to earn a top-ten ranking and a bid to the regional tournament for the first time in team history.
St. Cloud, meanwhile, comes into the game looking to fight their way into the rankings as well after receiving votes in the last poll. The Huskies are coming off a victory against St. Thomas (MN) and boast several victories against quality opponents including Minot State (ACHA D-1) and Minnesota State - Mankato, who split their series with KU last season. Tony Schultz (8g - 7a -15pts) and Cory Comstock (4g - 7a - 11pts) lead the Huskies into the game against KU\'s top scorers Erik Bredesen (9g - 9a - 18pts) and Nick Hantge (7g - 6a - 13pts)
These games are the last two home games of the semester. KU will return home against Big 12 conference foe Nebraska on January 25th as part of a second semester played exclusively against Big 12 opponents. Face-off is at 8pm Friday and 3pm Saturday. The KU pep band will be at the game Friday night to entertain the crowd. Be sure to get there early, be loud, and cheer on your Jayhawks!

November 8, 2007 -
After the first ranking period, the Jayhawks are ranked 14th in the Central Division of the ACHA\'s Divison 2. This is the first ranking of the year. The top two teams in each of the ACHA\'s four regions recieve a bye at regionals and advence directly to the National Tournament. The teams ranked third through 10th advance to the Regional round of the Tournament. KU also recieved votes last season, but was unable to crack the top 10 needed to advance to regionals. Two teams will advance out of each regional bracket to round out the field of 16 at Nationals.
The Jayhawks currently only hold a .500 record, but are aided in rankings by a difficult strength of schedule. Three of the Jayhawks five losses have come to teams who are ranked in the first ranking. KU was swept by Iowa (#9 Div. 2 - Central) at home and lost to Central Michigan (#6 Central - Div 2. ACHA) in overtime on the road. The other two losses were to Missouri who went to the Regional Tournament last season, but is unranked this year.
Most recently, KU defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road 6-2 and 7-1. Erik Bredesen recorded his second hat-trick of the season during the first game and Adam Paulitsch stopped 35 of 37 shots and picked up his first win of the season.Dan Guilfoil, Mark Quinn, and JD Malone also scored for the Jayhawks.
During the second game, Guilfoil and Matt Zellmer each collected two goals and Bredesen had a playmaker with three assists. Senior captain Nick Hantge had a three-point game with a goal and two assists. Price Duncan and Scott Haman netted the other two Jayhawk goals. Brent Pitts collected the win. The two victories moved the Jayhawks to 5-4-0-1 (W-L-T-OTL) on the season and gave them 11 points in the ACHA standings.
The road ahead doesn\'t get any easier for KU. To finish out the semester, the Jayhawks play Division 1 club team Central Oklahoma, (#14 Div. 1 ACHA) this weekend in Edmond, Okla. Next week, they travel to Minneapolis to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers club team (#7 Central - Div 2. ACHA) before coming home to face the St. Cloud State club team (#19 Central - Div. 2 ACHA) the weekend after Thanksgiving. KU wraps the semester with an away series against Missouri State (#5 Central - Div. 2 ACHA).
Broadcasts of this weekend\'s games against Central Oklahoma will be available live online via a link on the Central Oklahoma homepage.

October 14, 2007 - Kansas split a pair of games this weekend in Michigan as they defeated the Ferris State club hockey team 4-2 on Thursday night and lost to Central Michigan 3-2 in overtime on Friday.
After a 13-hour bus ride from Kansas, The Jayhawks arrived in Big Rapids, Mich. Thursday morning to face the Bulldogs of Ferris State. Ferris State, who finished last season ranked number nine in the Central Region of the ACHA\'s Division 2, was arguably the best team Kansas had faced all season and the game was tight from the beginning. Kansas killed off two Ferris State power plays early in the first period and the Bulldogs survived a Jayhawk power play at the end of the first. The two teams headed into the dressing room locked in a scoreless tie after the first period.
At the 5:02 mark of the second, junior forward Erik Bredesen broke out of his goal-scoring drought and notched his first goal of the season on the power play. Ferris State tied it up on a Josh Husted power-play goal three minutes and 11 seconds later. The Bulldogs had a chance to go up 2-1 midway through the second and shift the momentum. KU sophomore goaltender Brent Pitts was left sprawling in front of the net during a scramble. The puck came loose to the right circle, but the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize as the Ferris State player shot the rolling puck over a gaping net and the score remained tied. That missed opportunity by the Bulldogs may have served as a wake-up call for the Jayhawks and they capitalized on their chances towards the end of the period. At the 16:25 mark of the second, Dan Guilfoil connected with Chicagoland products freshman forward JD Malone and sophomore defenseman Glenn Brandt. After some great puck movement on the power play, Guilfoil streaked to the net and was able to bang home a back-door pass to put the Jayhawks up for good. Bredesen added his second goal of the game, which proved to be the game winner, with 34.6 seconds left in the period and the Jayhawks went into the dressing room up by two.
Ferris State came out firing on all cylinders in the third and forward Weston Woodbridge put the puck past Pitts 6:27 into the last frame. Pitts and the Jayhawks stymied the Bulldogs attack for the rest of the period and a Bredesen goal at the 13:48 mark closed the door for good. After Bredesen picked up the puck and streaked down the right wing, a Ferris defender hauled him down in an attempt to prevent a goal. Despite being tackled from behind, Bredesen scored from his knees, hammering the puck through Ferris State goaltender Jim Borgaard\'s legs and dashing any hopes of a comeback.
On Saturday, the Jayhawks traveled to Mount Pleasant, Mich. for a game with the Central Michigan Chippewas, who finished last season ranked 5th in the Central Region.
Kansas got two early goals on freshman Price Duncan\'s first career goal and another Bredesen tally shortly thereafter. Duncan scored on a backhand shot from the bottom of the right circle 5:15 into the first period and Bredesen went to the front of the net and sneaked the puck around Central goaltender Mike Jakobik 26 seconds later.
KU looked to be firmly in control and Central looked flat, however the Chippewas found a spark midway through the period when assistant captain Steve Myers scored. That seemed to turn the tide briefly and KU surrendered another goal as Derek Thomas tied the game up with just over three minutes remaining in the first. After a sloppy period of hockey, both teams skated to their dressing rooms fortunate that the other was playing equally poorly. The sloppy play continued in the second period and neither team was able to establish themselves as dominant.
The third period looked like a completely different game as both teams came out executing and flying to the puck. Both teams had several opportunities to score and Kansas had a 13-7 shooting advantage. Neither team could capitalize though and the game headed to overtime.
Kansas started the period with a man-advantage for 1:38. Central Michigan killed the penalty and scored on a Thomas shot thirty seconds later.
Kansas is now 3-4-0-1 and has seven points in the ACHA standings.

Kansas dropped a pair of games to the Iowa Hawkeyes this weekend. On Friday night, the Jayhawks came out flat and fell behind 2-0 in the first period. The team came out of the second intermission and tied the game up 2-2. The The Jayawks were unable to put the game out of reach in the second despite having an extended 5-3 powerplay and a penalty shot awarded to them. They surrendered two more goals to make the final score 4-2. The loss was KU\'s fist of the season and came despite out-shooting their opponent 43-33. Adam Paulitsch played all 60 minutes and stopped 29 shots on the night.
Saturday\'s game followed a similar script. Kansas fell behind 2-0 going into the first intermission. The Jayawks were able to rally on a goal by freshman defenseman Justin Jez and a penalty shot goal by senior forward Dan Guilfoil. KU came out on a power-play and had great puck movement to start the period. Jez took a feed from behind the net and hammered home a slapshot that beat the Iowa goaltender shortside-high. Guilfoil was then tripped on a breakaway and the Jayhawks were awarded a penalty shot for the second night in a row. This time they capitalized. Guilfoil took the puck and skated down the ice. As he attempted his shot, the puck hit a bump in the ice and he fanned on the shot, but the puck trickled between the goalie\'s legs. Iowa scored a power-play goal midway through the third on a two-man advantage and added an empty-net goal to make the final score 4-2. Eric Hylok played the whole game and stopped 40 of 43 shots on the night. The Hawkeyes outshot the Jayhawks 44-34.

Kansas swept the Denver Metro State University Roadrunners last weekend by a combined score of 15-3. The Jayhawks won Friday 7-1 and saw an impressive contribution form their Freshman Class. The action got started early on Friday as freshman forward JD Malone scored 56 seconds into the game on his first career shift for KU as he tapped home a pass from linemate and fellow freshman Price Duncan. Kansas sputtered through the rest of the first period and Turner Bahn tied the game at 1-1 when he scored the lone goal for the Roadrunners, beating Brent Pitts on a backhand at the 13:43 mark of the first period. Kansas went into the dressing room tied, but never looked back. They outshot Metro 39-9 over the next two periods and 50-16 on the night. Nick Hantge scored the game winner on a breakaway midway through the second. Hantge appeared to fan on a shot, but beat goalie Jacob Tripp five-hole nonetheless.
In all, the Jayhawks had seven goals from seven different players and goals by five newcomers. Scoring were Malone, Hantge, Steve Handy, Mike Margolis, Justin Jez, Kenny Anderson, and Kevin Kiske. Duncan, and Mike Draper got their first points as Jayhawks by each tallying an assist. Jez also added an assist. Pitts played all 60 minutes and collected the win.
Saturday brought more of the same as Kansas rolled to an 8-2 victory. The Jayhawks scored early and often, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before allowing a Roadrunner tally just over seven minutes into the second. Malone scored the first KU goal again, but this time waited until the 4:34 mark of the first period. That turned out to be his first of two goals on the evening. The Jayhawks again got production from all around as David Schiffer, Matt Zellmer, Hantge, Scott Haman, Tim Shockey, and Draper all scored. Duncan, Mark Quinn, Handy, Ryne Tusten, Zellmer, Hantge, Shockey, and Dan Guilfoil all collected assists. Steven Call had a goal for Metro State and Bahn added another. Eric Hylok picked up the win, stopping 26 of 28 shots and playing all 60 minutes.
