I played for KU '74 & '75. Since then I have been in sales in Springfield, Mo. Started the Mediacom Ice Rink you will be playing in tomorrow! (You will see me!) Coached Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) in their first year & later Coached my son Ryne's team to three Championship games and finally won the Missouri State Championship in 2005! ROCK-CHALK-JAYHAWK! GO KU!

Knight, David - 11/17/2011 4:58:37 PM

I played 2002-07. Right now I live in Los Angeles and go to school at USC.

McKain, James M. - 10/12/2011 2:13:36 PM

I am currently living and working in Seattle. I am the owner of The Law Office of James McKain, a law firm that practices primarily civil litigtion against governmental entities and criminal defense. My brief time with the Jayhawk hockey team is some of the best time I spent at KU. even from half a country away I will be rooting for KU hockey!

Abrahamson, Tytus - 9/27/2011 1:47:17 PM

Played 1999-2001, club president and part of the group that restarted the club after it faltered in the mid-90's. It was a humble beginning but Brian Luhrman took over after me and I'm so thrilled to see it thriving and strong today. Matching uniforms and everything! I'm now in NYC pursuing my career in music and still actively playing in net.

Solem, Andy - 9/26/2011 2:14:11 PM

Played 1986-1987. Live in Glenview Illinois. I was one of the founding players along with Brian Farrell (listed above) and John Wiedeman (current radio voice of the Chicago Blackhawks). I was the original goalie back in 1986. The first year, we played with 1968 football jerseys donated by the Athletic Director. Hung up the pads years ago as the Jayhawks were my last organized team - Glad to see the program thriving.

  ● Dordt is 5-12-2-1 and dropped a 4-3 overtime game to Nebraska on Friday, January 20 before falling 10-4 to the Huskers on Saturday, January 21. The Blades have been scored on 95 times and have scored 56 goals this season with Eric Huitsing leading Dordt in scoring with 18 points on a team high 13 goals to go along with 5 assists. Brandon Fast has 14 points on 7 goals and 7 assists while Kevin Christian has 8 goals and 2 assists for 10 points.

  ● KU Hockey has had a tough season to date. We are, however looking forward to matching up against NIU and SLU that present KU with opportunity to make a run at moving up in the MACHA standings. We also have a "Border Showdown" on the hirizon. Even though hockey doesn't have the same history within the Border Showdown as other sports do, we still care about representing KU to best of our ability. The Hockey Border Showdown is not just another game. This is the one game every year where passion and intensity are heightened. I don't need to worry about our club's physical and mental preparation. The prospect of representing an entire community in front of 5800 passionate hockey fans serves to draw the best out of our athletes.

  ● KU Hockey played a tough Top 10 Central Division opponent in SIUE. After taking it on the chin game one, the guys fought back in game two. KU tied it’s season best offensive output of 4 goals. After spotting SIUE a 7 goal lead after 2 periods, KU finally played with speed and intensity, while outscoring SIUE 3-0 in the third period. The energy line of Tulini, Skelnik and Matt Kincaid SIUE's top scoring lines to a single even strength goal. Prokop, Gingrich and Kincaid again did a good job of controlling bodies and sticks in front of the defensive zone net, and did it penalty-free. 4 of 6 of Chase Pruitt’s penalties ended up in SIUE power-play goals. Elster blocked as many shots in game two as TJ. Schilar wins coaches award as “Player of the Weekend” after scoring 2 goals and added a helper in game 2 vs. SIUE. Schilar's 2-way play is a work-in-progress, but he continues to be real dangerous in the offensive zone.

  ● Tough losses in Bloomington, IL vs ISU. Our forecheck in the neutral zone and our defensive zone play again improved greatly. Skyler and Dom did a great job of defensive zone man-to-man coverege. Mason, Matt, Casey and Nick did a good job of clearing the crease of screens and deflections. We minimized our penalties. I'm looking forward to playing with a full roster and adding a speed and aggression game to our disciplined play, instead of budgeting legs from opening faceoff. TJ, Nick and Skyler split coaches award for the "Player of the Weekend".

Coach Berard - 10/9/2011 5:09:41 AM

  ● A couple tough lossess to MU this past weekend. Cooper and TJ did a great job of looking after everything coming at them from the perimeter. Parker Vanderhoven and Dom Hartigan improved greatly in defensive zone play. Mason Kincaid did great as a defensive forward in game 1 and as a defenseman in game 2. Matt Kincaid played great defensive hockey including aggressive fore-check in game 1 that lead to first KU goal. Jake Edward's neutral and offensive zone creativity will generate offense (as long as his shot hits the net..) Elster was a BEAST with outstanding shot blocking and clearing crease on penalty kill. Dunn wins coaches award for the "Player of the Weekend".

  ● "Adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it..." (unknown author). The KU Hockey Club has just received a great opporutunity to learn something about themselves and the game of hockey while going winless at 0-3 during the College Hockey Kickoff Weekend Sep. 16/17/18, 2011. KU Hockey spotted each opponenet at least 3 goals before deciding to play. Hopefully, this lesson will be respected as we prepare for our Loyola raodtrip this weekend...

  ● Great to have former players, O'Donnell and Weinberger, coming back in 2011-12. I'm looking forward to a solid Freshman class induding Pruit and Edwards. Getting a full season out of Frederick, Norris and Rogers will help as well.

James Hynes - 6/22/2011 12:32:17 PM

  ● I have # 6 in my closet here in Alberta. Steve Young took the # from Tobin, if you remember. Not sure how it ended up with me... Tobin held the record for most games played in that rink in Des Moines - Drake's home rink. I'll call you this evening. It'll be good to catch up. Been too long...

Jim Biggs - 6/22/2011 11:26:52 AM

  ● Roger that Jamie Hynes. Regarding retiring a Kansas Sweater, I think Kevin Tobin's #6 should hang from the rafters. Best KU Hockey Player of all time. Remember he played Division 1 NCAA for both Denver and Ohio State. He decided to finish his career playing for the Jayhawks. It was an honor to play alongside #6 Kevin Tobin. Call me at 314-302-2725.

James Hynes - 6/21/2011 7:01:35 PM

  ● Jim, Whether the book would sell or not... It needs to be written. History needs to be documented! For example, I remember during the final moments of a game vs. Merrimack, before a Blues/Blackhawks pre-season tilt in K.C... When Brett Hull and former Flame Mike Bullard leaned into the bench area... Hull asks me, "What is this?" I respond, proudly, "KU Hockey." Where can I email you?

Jim Biggs - 6/21/2011 5:04:33 PM

  ● Jamie, I've been trying to contact you for a few years now. The time is now for the Book we wanted to write, "Life on the Road with KU Hockey". It would probably be an instant NY Times Best Seller. Brian Ferrell and Brian Krenning should write the Forward.

James Hynes - 6/21/2011 2:56:18 PM

  ● How things have changed since I was a student in the 80s! Lot of good pals on those teams. Seldom were there Crimson & Blue pants and helmets to match the Kansas jersey. Most games were on the road. But the team played hard and won most battles. A cast of characters that'd make Don Cherry proud! Great site. Keep up the good work. Brilliant job with the program. Coach Berard; where are you from in Saskatchewan? My wife's from Wakaw, all four of our children Alberta-born. (I was born & raised in NY, living in Alberta now for some time) You are certainly far from the grain elevators, the WHL, and the Rough Riders – not to mention the winters, which I’m sure you don’t miss! We spend lots of time on the family farm in Sask. Our second home… Jim Biggs: they should retire your jersey. #21 should hang from the rafters. I'd drive the family down from Alberta for that ceremony! "Life on the road," as we used to say. Fond memories... Hope you and the family are well in St. Louis.

  ● Curious if KU Hockey will add games to the 2011/12 season. If so, how many games and against who? Thumbs up on Topeka being the new home of KU Hockey with several games being played in Independence!

  ● To date we have received offers from non-MACHA programs including University of Arizona, University of Illinois, Eastern Illinois University, and University Nebraska. Our first priority will be MACHA. Once the MACHA schedule is finalized, we will consider non-MACHA to round out our competition schedule. I don't anticipated any D1 opponents added to our schedule. Since strength of schedule is a contributor to National rankings, we would definitely consider D1 games. Thanks for for your interest.

Jim Biggs - 3/22/2011 3:04:02 PM

  ● I'm wondering what kind of non-MACHA competition will be on our schedule next season? Will there be any matches against D1 opponents?

Coach Berard - 2/28/2011 3:47:47 PM

  ● Thx for the show of support for the new web. We know we'll play the College Hockey Kickoff Weekend and the KU-MU Border War Hockey at the Independence Center. There is still confusion over the status of our previous home rink, Pepsi Ice Midwest, so we've entered into discussions with other area rinks including the Topeka Expocentre. We'll notify everyone once we finalize our schedule.

Fan - 2/28/2011 2:44:12 PM

  ● Good job on the new website. Where will the team call home next season?

Jim Biggs - 2/27/2011 7:20:43 PM

  ● Congrats to KU Hockey on the new website. It's important that this website be updated on a regular basis. I look forward to following the Kansas Hockey Team in the future!
